Fulbright Program has provided more than 370,000 participants from the world the opportunity to conduct research, implement skills and ideas and contribute to society ISLAMABAD – This year, at least 173 Pakistani students and scholars will pursue advanced studies and research in the United States as Fulbright fellows. American Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Jonathan Pratt congratulated Pakistani students on receiving a prestigious Fulbright scholarship. “You made it through an incredibly competitive application process, and you and your families should be very proud of your achievement,” Chargé d’Affaires Pratt said. “I’m especially pleased to see such a diverse group of Fulbright participants here, representing the many geographical regions of Pakistan and different walks of life.” The Fulbright Program is the American government’s flagship academic exchange program, and the Fulbright Program in Pakistan is one of the largest in the world thanks to contributions by both the American and Pakistani governments. The 2017 Fulbright cohort is 54 percent female. The participants will attend 85 U.S. universities where they will pursue a wide variety of academic disciplines, including engineering, social sciences and energy management. “The Fulbright Program offers participants an unparalleled opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research and study alongside American peers,” said U.S. Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) Executive Director Rita Akhtar. “This academic experience has a transformative effect not only on individual participants, but also on their communities after they return home.” 2014 Fulbright Master’s Program alumna Saima Yawar commented, “When I look at Pakistan and my own journey, I see this program as a cornerstone for development of the future brand of leaders in my country. Pakistani students have gone to pursue study or research in the U.S. and returned to share gains of international learning, whether through continuing research back home or supporting the local communities and economy through business ventures.” Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 370,000 participants from around the world the opportunity to conduct research, implement skills and ideas, teach, and contribute to society. KFC to launch its own limited edition smartphone

KFC and Huawei with its special smartphone aim to make its 30th anniversary celebrate memorable It’s a surprising announcement that American fast food restaurant and global Chicken chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) revealed a special edition of Huawei smartphone in China. The new revealed smartphone device is in joint collaboration of Chinese electronics giant Huawei and KFC to make its 30th anniversary celebrate more memorable. KFC opened its first Chinese restaurant in November 1987, near Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Now the company that operates KFC restaurants – amongst others – locally has over 7,500 stores nationwide and became world’s second-largest restaurant chain only after McDonald’s. The phone is equipped with a 5-inch LCD display panel with a resolution of 1,280 by 720 pixels. Moreover, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 425, Qualcomm’s mid-range system-on-chip (SoC) with the Adreno 308 GPU. In addition to it, the phone will come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal flash memory. However, its more premium variant will feature 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space. Both models will sport a microSD card slot. However, both companies have not revealed any further information about this phone. “Between KFC and Huawei, one came from abroad had and settled its roots in China. The other (Huawei) originated here and later expanded its footprint globally,” Steven Li, senior vice president of KFC marketing with Yum China said. “Both brands have witnessed the rise of China in these 30 years, and both embody the spirit of the times. Our collaboration is homage to the era. The launch of the phone is also an important phase in the brand’s effort to fully digitalise the user experience and venture into into smart F&B and entertainment,” he added. Initial reports indicated that the phone in question is called the Huawei 7 Plus, though that seems to be a mistake as it looks like the recently released Enjoy 7 which is also not to be confused with the Enjoy 7 Plus, also known as the Y7 Prime in certain territories. According to the sources, only 5000 units of the special edition KFC Huawei 7 Plus will be available for sale. Users will be able to purchase the smartphone on brand’s official mobile app and also, from their e-shop on Alibaba’s TMall platform.
