Saudi demand Pakistan’s efforts to cooperate them in isolating Qatar The breaking off all diplomatic ties by Saudi Arabia ally nations with Qatar has created a chaos in many Muslim countries. Qatar who is close ally to Pakistan, by land and sea made headline news around the world, when Saudi asked Pakistan to clear their position “are you with us or with Qatar”. Pakistan in light of the current diplomatic tensions, Islamabad has issue a quick statement in response of Saudi’s demand that Pakistan will not take sides in the brewing diplomatic crisis in the Middle East. The Saudi demand for Pakistan to take a clear position on Qatar came during a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, diplomatic sources unveiled. Premier Sharif, who accompanied by army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and other senior officials, dashed to Jeddah on Monday to discuss the emerging situation in the Arab world. Pakistan has been treading a careful path since Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries snapped diplomatic ties with Qatar after accusing the oil-rich country of supporting terrorist groups. Meanwhile, Riyadh wants Islamabad to side with the kingdom as it ramped up efforts to participate them in isolating Qatar. However, Pakistani leaders instead Saudi expectation and offered to use its influence over Qatar to defuse the situation. Pakistani told the Saudi leadership that Islamabad would support any efforts to foster unity among the Muslim Ummah. However, Pakistan would not take sides in any event that would create divisions within the Muslim world. For this purpose, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will undertake visits to Kuwait, Qatar and Turkey, who are currently spearheading efforts seeking de-escalation of tensions between Qatar and other Gulf countries. Earlier this week, the Gulf States after cutting Qatar relations have given a time of two weeks to the Qataris to leave their shores. Qatar has also been taken out of the Islamic Military Alliance to Fight Terrorism (IMAFT) fighting in Yemen presently. Abu Dhabi also has announced stopping its flights to and from Doha.
