China inaugurates Technology Transfer Center in Pakistan

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Rana Tanveer and Chinese Minister for Science and Technology Wan Gang inaugurated Center at PCSIR

Apart from China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and constructing massive industrial projects in the region, China will also transfer technology to states participating countries through Pakistan via its One Belt One Road initiative.

For this purpose, China opens a facility center in Pakistan which will channel Chinese technology closest ally in the region, to support and groom the local Pakistani industry.

China’s Deputy Premier and Minister for Science and Technology Wan made this announcement during the inauguration of new sub-center of the China-South Asia Technology Transfer Center (CSTTC) at Islamabad.

The Technology Transfer Center was inaugurated by Pakistan’s Minister for Defence Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Minister Wan Gang in a ceremony at Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR). The center would enhance technology transfer and development between the two brother countries.

PCSIR Chief Dr Shahzad Alam, while sharing details about the center, said that under a proposal chalked-out by China, a South Asia Science and Technology Centre would be set up in each regional country.

“As per the proposal, China would provide financial support to Pakistan and other member states for setting up the centers and research laboratories for technology transfer and development,” he said.

Dr Alam added that the two sides had also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for implementing the approved projects.

The Chinese delegation, led by Dr Gang, arrived in Pakistan for a three-day visit on July 7, to attend the 18th session of the joint committee on the scientific and technical session. Dr Gang also assured the member states that China was ready to transfer technology to South Asian countries.

China and Pakistan will start a joint committee on science and technology, both countries have proposed 26 joint research and development projects, which were discussed when the Chinese delegation came to visit Pakistan.
