Provincial authorities issued travel warning for Karachi-Quetta Highway, Sibbi, Ziarat and Chaman linking roads.
The Provincial capital of Pakistan’s south-western province Baluchistan is under heavy snow fall from last two days. The current snowfall has broken the record of last 12 years.
Two inches of snowfall were recorded in Ziarat, seven inches of snow Kalat, while Zhob received heavy snowfall after 15 years. In the capital city Quetta, snow and rain have dropped the temperature to negative, People including children and women have been stuck to their homes due to heavy snowfall and awaiting relief.
Due to last two days after heavy rain and snowfall most of the major routes have seen blocked including Mangocher-KhadKocha Karachi highway linking to Quetta. The severity of weather also lead to the shortage of food items.
Meanwhile, electricity and gas supply to most districts of Balochistan has been suspended. Main transmission of 220KV supplying electricity to Khuzdar, Loralai and others areas of the province has been tripped due to a fault, plunging many areas into darkness.
On the other side, the provincial govt have directed local administration and concerns authorities to make sure people reach to the food and other basic necessities.
The provincial government also issued a travel warning to the citizens for driving on Karachi to Quetta Highway. The same travel warning had been issue for Sibbi, Ziarat and Chaman linking roads and the ministry advised people to use the warned road in extreme emergency case.
According to the ISPR, Army started relief activities in the areas where snow has disrupted daily lives.
Several roads blocked due to snow are being cleared including the Lowari tunnel, Quetta to Sukkur road and Taftan highways, according to the ISPR.
Moreover, crisis management centres have been established in Quetta, Sibbi, Ziarat, Pishin, Loralai, Kalat and Khuzdar to deal with untoward incidents.
