Pakistan nominated to the International Islamic News Agency for second consecutive term
Pakistan has been elected as member the Executive Council of the International Islamic News Agency (IINA) for its second consecutive term.
International Islamic News Agency (IINA), is a media organ of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), where as Pakistan nominated for consecutively second time to the Executive Council.
It was decided in meeting of the Executive Council and the 5th Session of the General Assembly of the International Islamic News Agency (IINA) held in Jeddah Saudi Arabia.
The meetings were presided by Dr Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad Saudi Minister of Culture and Information, Chairman of IINA Executive Council, and OIC Secretary General Dr Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen.
Sohail Ali Khan, Executive Director of Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) was representing Pakistan in 5th Session of the General Assembly of the International Islamic News Agency.
The participants of the meeting also discussed current situation of Islamic world and the role of news agencies in member states in supporting the Palestinian cause and combating the terrorist rhetoric.
They also discussed the agenda to transform IINA into a Federation of News Agencies (FNA) with more active role in the media and performed its role in to overcome the challenges to the Muslim world.
The Comprehensive Plan of Action within the OIC Programme 2025 and role of news agencies in member states in supporting the Palestinian cause and continue their moral and political support also came under discussion.
The 5th Session of the General Assembly further discussed the joint efforts in the national news agencies in member states, the role of IINA, training centre in supporting the capabilities of journalists from member news agencies, the role of news agencies in combating the terrorist rhetoric and Islamophobia, the participation in the OIC Award for Outstanding Media Professionals and the role of news agencies in supporting the implementation of the OIC Media Programme for the African continent.
International Islamic News Agency members decided to hold the sixth session of the General Assembly in Djibouti, Africa.
