HomeShopping introduces ‘White Friday’ because ‘Friday is never black’
Following the trend set by Daraz and Kaymu, another Pakistani e-retailer has jumped on the Black Friday bandwagon, offering big discounts from 27 – 30 of November.
HomeShopping has announced White Friday sales and discounts on their forum. The idea is essentially the same as Black Friday. But HomeShopping has branded their 27th November discounts as White Friday instead of Black Friday.
But why is this shopping extravaganze called White Friday?
Speaking about why their Black Friday sale is strangely named as White Friday, CEO of HomeShopping, Shayan Tahir, said: “We wanted something original plus we feel Fridays are never black in Pakistan. In the Muslim world, Friday is the day of prayer, the day of gathering, the day off, the family day, the day of joy, so surely… our Friday is WHITE!”
“The promotion is on the same day as it is elsewhere,” Tahir adds, but since a ‘black’ day in our culture is reserved for tragic events, he says, it didn’t make sense to call it that.
The shop will offer a discount of up to 70% on all products and luckily it isn’t limited to a single day as the sale will start at 12 A.M. on 27th November and will continue till 11:59 AM on 30th November.
Deals and discounts on HomeShopping will be available on everything from tech gadgets to hardware, clothing, fashion accessories and apparel, home appliances and kitchen utensils.
The concept of Black Friday sales is relatively new in Pakistan. The first one to start them was Daraz and since their announcement of a Black Friday sale on November 27, several others retail stores have initiated such deals on 27 November. Globally, online shopping is becoming widely popular on holidays and Black Friday.
