early life
Axel Stein was born on February 28, 1982 in Wuppertal, where he grew up with his older brother Michael and his parents. The actor and comedian began his television career at the tender age of just 12. Initially, Axel Stein appeared in a few commercials until he became interested in more extensive and permanent roles. Axel Stein entered the television and series industry with appearances in the series “Die Wache”, where you could see him in a total of four episodes. However, the actor only achieved national fame with his role as Tommie in the series “Hausmeister Krause”.
Career
Filming for the sitcom “Hausmeister Krause” began in 1998 and marked Axel Stein’s first permanent role on the German-speaking television landscape. In a total of 79 episodes, Axel Stein played Tommie, the overweight and “simple” son of the main character Dieter Krause, played by Tom Gerhardt. The series enjoyed great popularity from 1999 to 2010 thanks to the well-written and acted characters as well as the parody of philistinism.
Axel Stein had his first cinema appearance in 2000 with the teen comedy “Harte Jungs”, where he made the audience laugh alongside Tobias Schenke. Due to the success of the film, the producers decided on a sequel, namely “Knallharte Jungs” (2002), in which the character “Red Bull” portrayed by Axel Stein could not be missing and which was no less successful. Also in 2002, Axel Stein was engaged for the German film “Feuer, Eis & Flaschenbier”.

A further development of the series ran from 2004 and 2006 under the name “Axel! wants to know” on the TV station Sat.1.
Even if his performances and the characters portrayed by Axel Stein often have a slapstick touch, Axel Stein is reluctant to be pigeonholed in this category. In the film “Die Goldfische”, which was released in 2019, Axel Stein convinces alongside Tom Schilling with his portrayal of an autistic roommate and once again shows that he is a much more diverse actor than the actor is made out to be after his portrayal of the caretaker Krause son would trust.
Axel Stein also works as a director. He made his debut at the Berlinale in 2014, where he showed the horror film Tape_13, which he directed.
Axel Stein is not only professionally successful behind the camera in front of us, he also successfully lends his voice to animated characters.
