Christiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Together with three siblings, he grew up in poor circumstances. Already at the young age of only three years Ronaldo was enthusiastic about football and started with the sport. As an eight-year-old he played for amateur club CF Andorinha. Ronaldo’s talent was noticed early on and just two years later Madeira’s two leading clubs, Nacional Funchal and Marítimo Funchal, were showing great interest. Ronaldo finally chose the Nacional club. At the age of 12 he did a short trial at Sporting Lisbon and then moved there.
From then on, Ronalda trained with other players in the department that looked after young talent. His great talent and enormous ball skills convinced him that in the years that followed, Ronaldo became the first youngster from Sporting Lisbon to be used for the U16, 17, 18, reserve team and first team in a single season.
