David Guetta is a DJ and music producer from France who has sold over 9 million albums worldwide.
The musician was born in Paris as Pierre David Guetta and grew up there. His father is an immigrant from Morocco and worked as a sociologist, his mother is Belgian and a psychoanalyst and philosophy teacher. At the age of 14, David Guetta started organizing small beach parties for friends and played his own playlists on them. After discovering his talent as a musician, he began working as a DJ in discotheques at the age of 16. However, he then strayed somewhat from his passion and worked as a nightclub owner, mainly concentrating on organizing the events and parties.
The French DJ only released his debut album “Just a Little More Love” in 2002 at the age of 33. Just like the following albums, this one became a success and made David Guetta known beyond the borders of France. Just 5 years later he received the award for the world’s best DJ at the World Music Awards.
His first worldwide number one hit followed in 2009 with “I Gotta Feeling”, which Guetta produced for the band “The Black Eyed Peas”. In the same year, his album “One Love” was released. With over three million units sold, it became the DJ’s biggest success to date and marked his final international breakthrough. In particular, the single “When Love Takes Over” was able to top the charts in several countries.
Responsible for the great popularity was, among other things, that David Guetta changed his musical style and instead of electronic house music increasingly relied on electronic pop music, which was more suitable for the masses. After further successful releases, David Guetta also started to become more and more entrepreneurial and founded his own music label “Jack Back Records” in 2012, which is still active today.
By 2020, the DJ had released a total of seven albums and 98 singles. David Guetta has sold over 90 million records worldwide, nine million of them in Germany alone, for which he received 22 gold and 25 platinum records. In Germany, one of his releases reached number one in the charts, as did four of the DJ’s singles. David Guetta’s Net Worth is thus mainly the result of income from the sale of sound carriers. Added to this are the fees for his tours and performances at various festivals, such as “Tomorrowland” in Belgium.
The Frenchman also earns part of his money in the advertising industry. For example, he was in commercials and on posters for Renault, HP or Beats by Dr. to see Dre. In 2014 alone, he made an estimated $40 million, while on Forbes’ list of the highest paid DJs in 2019, he was only 8th at around $18 million.
In 2008, David Guetta and other DJs performed at the Stade de France in front of 40,000 spectators, which was the first such event of this magnitude in France.
In 2016 he co-released the official anthem of the UEFA European Football Championship This One’s For You with singer Zara Larsson.
In 2011, David Guetta was voted the world’s best DJ by UK DJ Magazine.
- “Inside a soul, there’s a hero to discover”
- “Travelling all around the world, music sounds different”
- “I’m not the type of person to live in fear. I think positively”
David Guetta’s half-brother, Bernard Guetta, is a well-known French journalist and politician and was even elected to the European Parliament in 2019.
David Guetta was discovered by Thomas Bangalter, part of the DJ duo “Daft Punk”, who had one of the musician’s songs played to him and then sent it to the record label Virgin Records.
David Guetta does not drink alcohol, does not smoke and does not take any other drugs.
