Short introduction
Farin Urlaub was born Jan Vetter on October 27, 1963 in West Berlin. He is active in many areas, for example Farin is also involved in photography and also appears as a solo artist. However, he is known to a wide audience as a founding member of the band “Die Ärzte”. One of his trademarks is his bright blonde hairdo, which makes him stand out as the band’s frontman.
In addition, he counts as the creative head of the band, co-writes many of the lyrics and also wrote many well-known songs for the doctors.
early life
Although he always keeps his private life out of the public eye as much as possible, a lot has become known from his early days.
It is known that he lived with his mother in the Moabit district of Berlin until he was seven years old. He then spent his youth in Frohnau until he was 18. During this time his mother liked to play songs by the Beatles and that’s how he really came into contact with music for the first time.
At the age of nine he took guitar lessons from an older woman, during which time he acquired the most important standards for playing the guitar. He regularly played the guitar on school trips and holiday camps to share with friends and teachers. However, the associated criticism was anything but positive, because his future music teacher also advised him against doing anything with music. But maybe it was exactly this criticism that Farin needed at the time. First he attended the Realschule and the Gymnasium which he finished with Abitur. At the age of 16 he had his hair cut and bleached blonde for the first time on a school trip to London. He joined the punk scene and broke off a degree in archeology to pursue a music career.
Soon after, in 1981, Farin met musician Dirk Felsenheimer (aka Bela B). The two played together in his band because Dirk was looking for a guitarist.
Career
A short time later, in 1982, the band around Dirk and Farin broke up and the result was a new band called “Die Ärzte”. A steep rise followed, several albums followed within the following years, the band celebrated commercial success and played many live performances.
But in 1988, promptly at the peak of their success, Farin Urlaub suggested the band should split up. This certainly shocked the fans of the band, because the separation was actually implemented. After that there was a longer break, until finally in 1993 the band got together again. Farin also started a solo career in 2001 and released a total of four albums plus one live album between 2001-2014.
