Short introduction
The German DJ and music producer Felix Jaehn (actually written as Jähn) achieved worldwide fame and recognition in the DJ scene at the end of 2014 with his significant deep house and tropical house style with the remix of “Omi – Cheerleader”. Since then he has been inspiring his growing fan base at numerous events and his own concerts.
Earlier life
Felix Jaehn was born in Hamburg, but grew up on the Baltic coast in a small town near Wismar (Mecklenburg-West Pomerania). He had his first contact with music at the age of six when he began taking violin lessons. Finally, at the age of 16, he started DJing in small clubs and at graduation parties. After graduating from the Ernst-Barlach-Gymnasium in Schönberg, he moved to Berlin to study business administration at the Humboldt University.
Felix Jaehn first spoke publicly about his bisexuality in 2018 in an interview with ZEITmagazin.
Career
While he taught himself most of his DJing skills, a year abroad in London attending Point Blank Music School helped him further his education in music production.
His breakthrough as a DJ came at the end of 2014 with the remix of the song “Cheerleader” by the Jamaican singer “Omi”, with which he was able to achieve high chart positions worldwide.
His second single, also a remix, this time from the song “Ain’t Nobody (Loves Me Better)”, which was once sung by Chaka Khan, was a complete success. With Jasmine Thompson singing, Felix Jaehn’s version quickly became a summer hit in Germany in 2015.
Finally, his first own song, “Book of Love”, was released in 2015, which also made it into the top 10 charts in a very short time. At the end of the extremely successful year 2015, he founded the music project Eff with Mark Forster, whose first single “Stimme” also climbed to number 1 in the German charts.
At first it seemed in 2016 that Felix Jaehn could not repeat his success of the previous year. The song “Everyone for Everyone”, produced together with Herbert Grönemeyer, which was supposed to serve as the 2016 European Championship anthem, received bad reviews. But with the single “Bonfire”, for which the tour of the same name through Switzerland, Austria and Germany started in the same year, he was even able to achieve platinum status with over 400,000 and placed in the top 3 of the German charts. This was followed by the award of the “Bambi” in the “Entertainment” category.
With songs like “Hot2Touch”, “Like a Riddle” and “Feel Good” Felix Jaehn was able to continue to hold his own in the German charts in 2017. Finally, Felix Jaehn released his debut album “I” on February 16, 2018, on which he published a summary of his previous hits. A remixed version of the album followed.
In 2019 Felix Jaehn tried to land another summer hit together with the British pop singer Calcum Scott with “Love on Myself”. The song, which particularly addresses the importance of one’s own self-love and self-acceptance, initially failed in its purpose, but was able to climb the charts two months after its release. In cooperation with the German music project VIZE, the collaboration “Close Your Eyes” was released in November, with number 69 in the German single charts, Felix Jaehn also managed to celebrate his 15th chart success.
With all these successes, the young DJ and music producer has already managed to build up a net worth of an estimated 3 million euros.
Career highlights
Outstanding are the successes of his 2015 remix of “Omi-Cheerleader” and his single “Bonfire”, with which Felix Jaehn was able to achieve platinum status. In addition, the success with the summer hit 2015 “Ain’t Nobody (Loves Me Better) should definitely be mentioned.
In addition, the award with the “Bambi” in the “Entertainment” category in 2016 is also one of the highlights of his career to date.
Famous quotes
About his bisexuality: “Two years ago I would never have gone to the CSD because I would have been afraid that I would be seen there and then people could think: ‘Hm, does he have a sexual issue or something ? ‘ That was just a secret, what I had. Which I just don’t think should be a secret at all.”
Amazing Facts
Since Felix Jaehn started at the age of 16, for example at graduation parties and in clubs, he sometimes had to show a “Muttizettel” at the entrance as the DJ of the party in order to get into the club.
Another possibility for him was to get to the respective events as early as possible so that the security wasn’t there yet and he could disappear behind his DJ desk and no one could see how old he actually was.
