According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, federal government has formally awarded license after Jazz paid USD 295 million as a base price and an additional 10% in taxes to start its work on expanding the existing 4G coverage in Pakistan.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and State Minister for Information Technology & Telecom Anusha Rahman participated in the ceremony as chief guests.

Jazz was the only operator to have participated in the auction held in May and submitted its bid for S 259 million for the technology-neutral license for 10 MHz of frequency spectrum, hence qualified as the winner without any bidding.

Anusha Rahman while talking to the participants said that the new 4G license would further benefit the citizens of Pakistan and economy. Telenor and Zong are already providing 4G services to its customers.

“This development is truly very exciting for us at Jazz because it allows us to provide Pakistan with a far-reaching and enhanced mobile broadband experience,” Aamir Ibrahim, CEO – Jazz said.

“Acquisition of the additional spectrum demonstrates Jazz’s investment in the country’s digital future – in line with our vision of becoming a true digital entity,” he added.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Chairman Syed Ismail Shah said world communication institutions were acknowledging and appreciating Pakistan’s efforts and success in the IT field.

By expanding its 4G network, Jazz looks to bring in new digital experiences designed to not only provide exceptional communications services, but also convenient financial, business and entertainment solutions.
