Short introduction
When talking about Iron Maiden, you always have to see them as a group. The band currently consists of six people, with founder and bassist Steve Harris and singer Bruce Dickinson standing out in particular. Both together currently have a Net Worth of 300 million euros. Around 200 million euros of this goes to Steve Harris and 100 million to Bruce Dickinson. How much the other members have earned so far cannot be said. But they certainly don’t have to starve.
early life
Iron Maiden was founded on December 25, 1975. On that first day of Christmas, Steve Harris and four of his friends decided to form a band. However, only Steve Harris proved perseverance, because already in 1977, apart from Harris, there was no founding member in the band. In the following years, many musicians were only short-term members of the band. This was certainly often due to private decisions, but also because the band did a lot of live performances. In 1980 a cast was found with Paul Di’Anno (singer), Dave Murray (guitar), Dennis Stratton (guitar), Steve Harris (bass) and Clive Burr (drums), which led to initial success.
Career
Due to the many appearances, Iron Maiden had gained a certain notoriety without having an album on the market so far. That changed in 1979 when they signed a record deal with EMI. In 1980 the debut album was released, which was simply titled “Iron Maiden”. Just one year later, the second album “Killer” was released, which achieved respectable success with number 12 in the British charts. With the third album they achieved their breakthrough. Before that, however, there was a change. Previous singer Paul Di’Anno was replaced due to alcohol problems and unreliability. Bruce Dickinson took the place at the microphone. In 1983 the album “The Number of the Beast” was released, which was to bring the breakthrough with number 1 in the British charts. Up until then, no heavy metal band had managed to do that.
In the years that followed, the band continued to release successful albums, but failed to make it to the top. This only happened again in 1988 with “Seventh Son of a Seventh Son”. For many fans and critics, this album is called the best metal album of all time. The following two albums were received rather negatively despite good sales figures. As a result, singer Bruce Dickinson quit in 1992 to pursue his solo career.
The exit had an impact on the following years. Not only that the new singer Blaze Bayley didn’t have the vocal qualities of Bruce Dickinson. The chart positions also went down rapidly. The 1998 album “Virtual XI” was the first album since 1982 not to be placed in the top ten. In 1999 Bruce Dickinson returned as a singer. With the album “Brave New World” the band was able to seamlessly continue the old successes. Since then, every new album has climbed to the top of the charts.
In 2014, the band’s fans had to accept a shocking message. Bruce Dickinson was diagnosed with tongue cancer, which delayed work on a new album. In 2015, however, the full recovery was announced and the 16th studio album was released in the same year with the double album “The Book of Souls”. Like its predecessor, the album was able to establish itself in the charts worldwide.
