Jürgen Ludwig Drews, better known as Jürgen Drews, or “the king of Mallorca”, is one of the most famous pop singers in Germany. But the seventy-four-year-old Drews is far from being old-fashioned. He still performs and inspires the hearts of his fans. Drews lives with his wife Ramona Drews in Münsterland, but he likes to spend a lot of time on Mallorca, both privately and professionally.
Jürgen Drews was born in 1945 in Nauen, in Brandenburg. He spent his youth in Schleswig. There he was able to complete his first performances as a musician in the Hotel Hohenzollern. He completed his Abitur and was then enrolled in Kiel to study medicine. However, he broke this off in order to be able to concentrate fully on the music.
His musical talent was evident early on. At the age of 15 he won the prize for the best banjo player in Schleswig-Holstein. In his youth he played in the school band “Monkeys” and later joined the band “Chimes of Freedom” in Kiel as a solo guitarist.
The management demanded a name change for the band and so “Chimes of Freedom” became the band “The Others”. The band released one LP and a few singles, but broke up in 1969. The young Drews took part in various films and thus gained acting experience.
After his brief acting career, Drews took on the role of lead singer in the band Les Humphries. In 1973 he started his solo career. The hit “Ein Bett im Kornfeld”, which he released in 1976, laid the foundation for his success as a solo artist and made him famous across the country.
With his hit, he was then able to appear on what was then the largest platform for German singers, the ZDF hit parade. Several guest appearances in the cult format followed, as well as further single releases.
In the 1980s, Drews tried to start a career in the United States. He released one album and used the pseudonym “JDDrews”. His album “Don’t Want Nobody” even managed to reach one of the bottom ranks in the Top 100 Billboard charts.
At the end of the 1980s, Jürgen Drews then became the moderator of the hit parade in the third.
In the early 1990s, Drews made his comeback in the music industry. He worked as a producer and, together with Stefan Raab and Bürger Lars Dietrich, released his classic “Ein Bett im Kornfeld” as a new recording. Drews landed the next hit in 2000 with the well-known song “König von Mallorca”. Here the pop singer sings about himself as the king of Ballermann and S’Arenal. Through his numerous appearances in the clubs and bars on the Ballermann, he gained great popularity and became very popular in Mallorca and in Germany. The song “Hey Amigo Charly Brown” also reached number 1 in the German party charts in 2002 and was a great success for Drews.
Since then, Drews has appeared regularly on Mallorca and earned his money as a pop singer in various programs. He also participated in the project “Les Humphries Singers Reunion” in 2007, where a new album was released.
By 2015, Jürgen Drews had released 19 studio albums of his own. He lives and maintains his Mallorca king image. He was also able to dress his roles very well in films such as “Ballermann 6” or “Verliebt in Mallorca” and delivered an authentic picture of a successful pop singer on the sunny island. He did this so well because it corresponds to the truth. Jürgen Drews IS one of the most successful party singers in Mallorca and was able to earn a lot of money with this image.
In 2008 and 2011 he won the Ballermann Award. In 2011 even for his life’s work. Drews won the Silver Bravo Otto in the singer category three years in a row, in 1976, 1977 and 1978.
He received the golden tuning fork in 1981. Numerous other prizes, including radio prizes, were awarded to him, among other things, for his life’s work.
He had his heyday as the king of Mallorca in the early 2000s on the Ballermann.

Jürgen Drews explained in an interview on the Radio Bremen talk show that he had never liked Ballermann. When asked by the moderator, he replied that the bawling and drinking there bothered him.
Drews performs once a week in Mallorca, both in high and low season.
Jürgen Drews has two children. A son from his marriage to Corinna Drews. He has no contact with him. His daughter Joelina Drews is also a singer. The two have a good relationship.
