early life
Kerstin Ott was born in West Berlin and has lived in Heide, a town in Schleswig-Holstein, since she was a child. As a child, she sang in a Rolf Zuckowski choir and took part in talent competitions. She also worked part-time as a DJ. Kerstin Ott is a trained painter and varnisher. Until her musical breakthrough, she worked actively in this profession. At the beginning of 2016 she gave up her job and has been on the German stages ever since.
Kerstin Ott actually came out at the age of 17. She entered into a registered partnership with her friend Karolina Köppen in August 2017, which was later converted into a marriage. Karolina Köppen and her two children took the name Ott. To this day they all live happily together.

The song “Die immer lacht”, with which Kerstin Ott had her breakthrough, was written as a hobby musician around 2005. According to you, the song was created within five minutes for a friend who was ill at the time. At that time, Kerstin Ott gave away some self-burned CDs with the song. One of the recipients put the song online and years later it was discovered by Stereoact and released as a remix on Kontor Records.
In the original version of the song, Kerstin Ott accompanied herself on a simple guitar, which is why it is assigned to the “Schlager” genre. It’s different with the mix of Stereoact – it belongs to “Melodic/Deep House”.
In October 2018 the autobiography “Die almost always laughs” by Kerstin Ott was published. In a duet with Helene Fischer, the single “Regenbogenfarben” was released in the same year.
She was last seen on TV in 2019. Kerstin Ott took part in the 12th season of the RTL dance show “Let’s Dance” and took 10th place there. It was not until March 2017 that “Die immer lacht” was declared the most successful work of 2016 and awarded the German Music Authors’ Prize. In Germany and Austria, the title climbed to number 2 in the charts and stayed in the top 10 for several months.
The single “Scheissmelodie” went to number 31 in the charts in 2016 and stayed in the top 100 for the next three months. At the end of 2016 her debut album “Herzwohner” was released, which reached number 4 in the German album charts. She was awarded the gold disc for “Herzwohner”.
In 2017 she received the German Music Author Prize in the category “Most Successful Work”. Kerstin Ott released her second album “Mut zurkata” on August 25th, 2018 and went straight to number 5 in the German album charts. In the 2nd week she even reached 3rd place.
Most recently, on November 1st, 2019 she released what is probably her most personal and most emotional studio album “I have to tell you something”, with which she reached number 2 in the charts. She dedicated three songs from the album to her wife. In the same year she was awarded “Female Singer of the Year” by GfK Entertainment.
