Short introduction
Probably the most popular member of the Backstreet Boys, the most successful boy band ever, Nick Carter became a megastar. In the nineties, the hearts of girls literally flew to him – but the singer can do more than just smile charmingly and still works hard for his success today.
early life
Nickolas Gene Carter, known as Nick, was born in Jamestown, New York, in early 1980. The family moved to Florida in the mid-1980s. He is the eldest child of his parents, who divorced in 2003, and has four siblings. Probably the best known is singer Aaron Carter. Over the years, major disputes developed in Carter’s family, which led to a long-lasting loss of contact.
In Florida, the young Nick Carter attended many different film, commercial and singing auditions which gave him his first experience. He was allowed to play a small role in “Edward Scissorhands” at the age of ten. In 1993, Carter finally attended a casting by boy band maker Lou Pearlman, who assembled the Backstreet Boys from Carter and four other young people.
Career
Nick Carter was the youngest member of the Backstreet Boys, with whom he had his big break in the mid-1990s. As a result, the band released numerous well-known hits, including 1997’s “Everybody”, 1999’s “I Want It That Way” and “Larger Than Life” and 2000’s “Shape Of My Heart”. The band celebrated the greatest successes and record breaks with their album “Millennium” from 1999.
In 2002, Nick Carter released his first solo album, Now or Never. This happened at the same time as *NSYNC’s Justin Timberlake. In comparison, Carter was initially unable to build on his band success, but received critical acclaim for “Now or Never” and successfully released a single called “Help Me”.
Carter initially focused on the reunion with the Backstreet Boys, with whom he is still at the top of the charts – for example with the latest work “DNA” from 2019. But the musician never let go of his solo career. In 2011 and 2015 he released the albums “I’m Taking Off” and “All American” and collaborated with other musicians such as Jennifer Paige and Jordan Knight. Personal realization and development is therefore very important to Nick Carter.
Career highlights
Already in 1997 Nick Carter landed a great success with the Backstreet Boys and their album “Backstreet’s Back”. The single “Everybody” reached number 2 in the German charts, and a sold-out tour followed. What followed two years later was incredible: the album “Millennium” turned out to be the best-selling album in the first week of its release. The group set a record, going platinum in 28 countries and selling 30 million copies of “Millennium”.
To this day, the Backstreet Boys are simply unstoppable. Her latest work “DNA” spontaneously rose to number 1 in the US charts and led to a world tour. With this band Nick Carter sold a total of 130 million records. He has been nominated for five Grammy Awards and has won four Billboard Music Awards and seven MTV Awards.
“Now or Never” wasn’t a Backstreet Boys-style mega hit for Nick Carter, but it gave him a first foundation. It stayed in the US top 30 for nine weeks, and its single “Help Me” stayed in the top 20 in the UK and Germany for several weeks. Later, Carter found success primarily with his collaborations. The release “Beautiful Lie” with singer Jennifer Paige stayed in the German charts for eleven weeks in 2009.
