Pakistani denim maker acquires Los Angeles factory

Artistic Milliners has an annual turnover of $256 million with 17 factories in Karachi

Artistic Milliners, a Pakistani textile company that produces renowned international brands, acquired a denim factory located in Commerce, California. The move will lift Pakistan’s profile as a sourcing destination as the first denim company with a factory in the U.S. it is a timely move since the demand for consumer goods, including clothing, is expected to rise in 2021 after a somewhat sedate 2020 due to COVID-19. Pakistan already has a strong textile exports base for the U.S.

The business continues under a new name of Star Fades International (SFI), providing finishing services to a customer roster that ranges from large international retailers to specialty premiums, as per the company statement. SFI’s Founder and executive director of Artistic Milliners said that the move will allow the company a strategic advantage.

“The acquisition gives us a strategic foothold in the US, in a region with significant geographic and demographic advantages,” said Ahmed.

A local stalwart

Artistic Milliners began as a small retail store in 1949. It is now one of the top denim producers in the world with 17 factories and mills in Korangi area in Karachi, employing 19,860 people. It ranked third on the Top 10 list of Pakistani textile exporters in the year 2017-2018. The company has a total annual turnover of $256 million.

Great potential for exports

Pakistan’s textile exports to the U.S. is over $2 billion annually. There is a great scope for increasing these numbers and exploit the potential of the U.S. market. Such acquisitions can certainly help the cause as a U.S. based setup can help land larger orders in the future. More Pakistani exporter should look into ways to further break into all international markets to benefit both at the personal and national level.
