The results from the first batch of phase 3 trials have been heartening as the vaccine performed well
Pfizer and BioNTech have claimed that their jointly developed vaccine for coronavirus is 90% effective in preventing the virus. The results from the first batch of Phase 3 trials for the vaccine have been very encouraging. This is a significant step as a proper functioning vaccine can help saves millions of lives in years to come. According to the pharmaceutical, they will be able to provide 50 million doses in 2020 and 1.3 billion doses in 2021.
Pfizer’s CEO Dr. Albert Bourla expressed his delight at the occasion and called it a great day for science and humanity. He felt that the world has gotten closer to a vaccine that will cure this virus.
“Today is a great day for science and humanity. The first set of results from our Phase 3 COVID-19 vaccine trial provides the initial evidence of our vaccine’s ability to prevent COVID-19,” Bourla, Pfizer’s said in a statement.

Other companies also working on vaccines
This vaccine isn’t the only one in the works as major pharmaceuticals around the world are working to find an effective vaccine. Some of these vaccines are in advanced trials. One can hope that an effective COVID vaccine, with minimal or no side effects, will be available in a few months’ time. In the meantime, it is imperative that social distancing is maintained and all precautions are exercised to avoid the spread of the virus.
