Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman expressed his desire for better relations with Iran recently
Prime Minister Imran Khan welcomed Saudi Arabia’s “initiative for peace with Iran” after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said that the Kingdom wants “good” relations with its neighbor. The two countries have historically had bad relations mainly due to ideological differences.
Imran Khan tweeted his appreciation for the development and said that the step will strengthen the Muslim Ummah. “We welcome the KSA initiative for peace with Iran. Iran is our neighbor and KSA our closest friend. This peace initiative will strengthen the Muslim Ummah,” Khan Tweeted.
Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman recently said that his government wants better relations with Iran and wants to see the country grow for regional prosperity.
“Iran is a neighbouring country, and all we aspire for is a good and special relationship with Iran,” MBS said. “We do not want Iran’s situation to be difficult. On the contrary, we want Iran to grow… and to push the region and the world towards prosperity.”
Saudi Arabia and Iran have remained bitter rivals, both vying for power in the Arab world. Saudi Arabia has been inclined towards the U.S., a long-time Iran rival as well. however, the current goodwill gesture may lead to better relations and less stress in the region, which is much needed.
