Pakistan-Russia economic cooperation in focus during the visit
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Islamabad today as part of his two-day official visit (6-7 April 2021). He was welcomed at the Chaklala air base by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
This is the first visit of a Russian foreign minister to Pakistan since 2012.
Russian Foreign Minister will have delegation-level talks with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. He will call on Prime Minister Imran Khan and have interaction with other dignitaries.
“The visit of Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will contribute to further deepening of the multifaceted bilateral relationship and enhancing mutual understanding on regional and global issues” Pakistan Foreign Office said.
Pakistan and Russia enjoy friendly and cooperative relations. Bilateral cooperation is growing across a wide range of areas of common interest including in security and defence, counter-terrorism, and the Afghan peace process.
Over the recent past, increased collaboration in economic, trade and energy sectors has been the focus of the two governments.
