Short introduction
Tom Brady is the most successful quarterback in NFL history. He reached the Super Bowl 9 times and won it 6 times. In addition to this top value, he set numerous other records. He has played continuously for the New England Patriots since beginning his NFL career in 2000. His marriage to model Gisele Bundchen also brings him more attention.
early life
Born in California, Tom Brady was a frequent guest at NFL games, specifically the San Francisco 49ers, thanks to his father as a child. That’s why the then quarterback of the 49ers, Joe Montana, became a role model for the young Tom Brady. In high school, however, he only played baseball.
That changed in college, where he started playing football but was initially a reserve player. In his last two years of college he was the starting quarterback, which set several records, such as most passing attempts and most successful passes in a season. Both seasons he was selected to the All Star Team of the Big Ten Conference. In 1998, Tom Brady won the Florida Citrus Bowl with his college, and in 1999 the Orange Bowl.
The following season, he was drafted by the New England Patriots, but he was drafted 199th overall. So he was initially only No. 4 quarterbacks. But that all changed in his first year as an NFL professional, and an unprecedented career took its course.
Career
In his second season with the New England Patriots, he became the starting quarterback due to a first quarterback injury. After initially moderate performance, the team with Tom Brady lost only one more game this season. That’s why his team entered the 2001 Super Bowl, which Tom Brady, who suffered a minor injury in the semifinals, won directly in his first full season.
No one could have guessed that many more of these titles would follow. First they failed in the following season due to the playoff entry, only to win the Super Bowl again in 2003. In 2004 they even managed to defend their title, a relatively rare event in the NFL.
In 2005, the Denver Broncos failed to make the playoffs, giving Tom Brady his first playoff loss in his fourth year as a starting quarterback.
In 2006 they failed again in the playoffs, the following year Tom Brady had a “perfect season” with a record of 16:0 in the regular season, but then lost in the Super Bowl with a narrow margin of 14:17 against the New York Giants.
In 2008 he injured himself seriously for the first time, right in the first game of the season in which he was no longer able to play at all. In the following season, however, he convinced again with old quality and new records. He became the first player in NFL history to throw five touchdown passes in just one quarter. He later managed 358 throws without an interception, which was also a record.
By the time he failed to reach the 2020 Super Bowl, he had made 9 appearances in the finals. Various scandals surrounding his team did not detract from his popularity. He was one of the protagonists of the so-called “Deflategate” when his team played with too little air in the balls. He last won the Super Bowl in 2019 at the age of 41.
Career highlights
The once-in-a-lifetime achievement of winning six Super Bowls as a quarterback is the absolute culmination of that career, which isn’t even over yet. Nine appearances in the Super Bowl are also a record, but his overall performance over almost two decades must be regarded as fascinating. In this respect, a single highlight in Tom Brady’s career can hardly be identified.
There are also a number of personal awards. Tom Brady was twice (2004 and 2007) Sporting News Sportsman of the Year. He was a one-time Male Athlete of the Year (2004), 4x Super Bowl MVP, and was eventually selected to the NFL’s Team of the Decade of the 2000s.
