Keywords like Mission: Impossible, Top Gun or Scientology probably ring a bell for everyone, because everyone knows Thomas “Tom” Cruise. The 57-year-old world-renowned actor was born on July 3, 1962 in Syracuse, New York in America and is worth around US$570 million (approximately €509 million).
The American of German, Irish and English descent spent most of his childhood in Canada. Because of his dyslexia, he was teased by his classmates and grew up in rather poor circumstances. He only learned to read properly in the 1980s after joining the Church of Scientology. According to his own statement, he had to suffer from his father and his physical abuse, the parents later divorced.
His main interests were sports and acting. After suffering a knee injury and being eliminated from his wrestling team, he decided to become an actor rather than a sportsman.
