In the following games he scored his goals in almost every game and thus consolidated his reputation as the best center forward in Germany. His hit rate was so high that he scored 404 goals in 19 years at Hamburger SV and 476 appearances. This quality did not go unnoticed in the European football world for long, and in 1961 Seeler received a very lucrative offer from Inter Milan, the club offered around 1.2 million German marks as a transfer fee. But Uwe turned down the change and remained loyal to Hamburger SV, who tried to keep Seeler at all costs.
In the further course he was voted top scorer and also the footballer of the year in Germany. Also internationally, Seeler caused a sensation with Hamburger SV, because in 1968 they reached the final of the European Cup Winners’ Cup, but lost 0-2 to AC Milan.
