Known for fast cars, guns and muscles: Vin Diesel. But there’s more to the actor than just fiery action and he’s had an interesting career.
Vin Diesel, whose real name is Mark Sinclair Vincent, was born in Alameda County in the summer of 1967. He has African American and Italian roots, his mother worked as a psychologist and astrologer. He never got to know his biological father, instead this task was taken over by his stepfather, an acting teacher.
Vin Diesel grew up in New York City with his twin brother Paul, who is now also in the film industry. At the age of seven he broke into a theater with friends to riot there. They were caught, but instead of being fined, they were given the task of doing drama every day after school.
Vin Diesel then took to acting and landed several roles in New York theaters, but they didn’t garner much attention. He also worked as a bouncer in clubs and studied English for three years. However, Diesel dropped out of college to go to Hollywood.
After the lack of success in the theater, Vin Diesel shot his first own short film called “Multi Facial”, in which he wrote, directed and starred himself. In 1997 he presented his first feature film “Strays – Live Your Life”. Eventually, Steven Spielberg caught his eye and helped Diesel break through with a role in Saving Private Ryan.
In 2000, Vin Diesel starred in Pitch Black. This film received two sequels in 2004 and 2013 that put his character in the center. A year later followed the first part of “The Fast and the Furious”, his most well-known film series to date. He starred in this franchise as a lead actor and producer. In 2002 he starred in the agent thriller “Triple X”.
In 2005, Vin Diesel released his first comedy, the Disney film The Babynator. The following year, he tried new roles again with the drama Find Me Guilty. As his follow-up films have shown, action is his best: since 2014 he has dubbed Groot in several Marvel films, in 2015 he played in “The Last Witch Hunter” and the “Fast and Furious” films never end.
Vin Diesel finally gained notoriety through the series “The Fast and the Furious”. The role of Dominic Toretto is arguably his most famous and the franchise has been hugely successful. The “Fast and Furious” films have been nominated for several awards, Vin Diesel received an MTV award for it.
He had similar success in 2000 with “Pitch Black” and with its follow-ups over the years. The Pitch Black films also come with a number of PC games that set the story from the perspective of Diesel’s character, Riddick.
Other films starring Vin Diesel, such as Saving Private Ryan, also received good reviews. His debut work “Multi Facial” was even shown at the Cannes Film Festival. In the late 2010s, Diesel voiced the iconic character of Groot in several Marvel films. He also received a star on the Walk of Fame in 2013.
