Willi Herren was born under his real name Wilhelm Herren on June 17, 1975 in Cologne. Herren grew up poor and was interested in acting from an early age. At the age of 17 he landed his first role in the ARD series “Lindenstraße”.
Willi Herren left the successful series “Lindenstraße” after 170 episodes. Throughout the 1990s, he starred in other films and television series, including “Lola and Bilidikid”, “Alert for Cobra 11” and “Tatort”. With each additional role, the fame of the former actor increased.
Herren took part in the 2nd season of the jungle camp on RTL, where he was able to reach third place. He also got involved in RTL celebrity boxing, where he competed against singer Darkman Nana. In addition, Willi Herren was involved in other TV projects such as “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2017 and “Das Sommerhaus der Stars” in 2019.
Getting older, Willi Herren has been trying his hand at the music business for a number of years. So he has several hit songs like “I can’t help it” in 2006, “On Maja’s flower meadow” in 2007, “Fuck it!” in 2011 and released many more songs and regularly performs at the Ballermann in Mallorca. In addition, Herren opened his first club in his hometown of Cologne in 2018, which he christened “Trivoli Cologne”. One of his most recent projects is the development of the club into a successful hit disco.
Willi Herren achieved his breakthrough in acting with his role as Oliver “Olli” Klatt in the ARD series Lindenstraße, which he played from 1992 to 2007. In 2012 and 2014, Herren paid further visits to the German series with brief guest appearances.
Numerous songs followed in the years 2004 up to and including 2019, with which Herren fine-tuned his music career. Willi Herren achieved his success in the music industry in 2010 when he performed and released his cover version of Udo Jürgens’ “I’ve Never Been to New York”. After a short time, Herren was able to assert himself as a singer and entertainer, especially in the disco scene. From 2009 to 2011 Willi Herren released the albums “Greatest Hits”, “Meine Beste” and “Lobet den Herren”.
Willi Herren received several awards for his musical achievements. He was honored with Ballermann Awards in the categories “Best Party Act” in 2011 and “Best Cover Song” in 2013 as well as in the category “Live” in 2018.
“I was addicted to pills for 20 years without knowing it.” With this statement, Willi Herren once publicly stated in an interview that he had struggled with pills for a period of his life. The reason he gave was that he wanted to suppress his self-doubt and worries, the pressure to succeed and self-created existential fears as well as private problems such as love chaos and his father’s dementia. At the end of 2018, Herren was in rehab to work on himself and get rid of the pill addiction.
In the course of his life, Willi Herren has mainly attracted attention with negative headlines.
The native of Cologne is said to have openly admitted in the “Summer House of the Stars”, a TV show in which he and his ex-wife Jasmin Herren took part, that he was often unfaithful in the past. However, his ex-wife understood his missteps at the time and was able to forgive him.
What few people know about Willi Herren’s parents: his father was a boxer and his mother a prostitute. Although his deceased mother’s former job was, according to his own statement, not a nice thought for him as a son, Herren is grateful that his mother went to work. She did this to support her family financially.
On May 15, 2008, Willi Herren was sentenced to six months’ probation by the District Court of Cologne because he was caught driving several times without a driver’s license. A further suspended sentence and a suspension of the driver’s license came when the district court in Cologne accused the men of drunken driving and coercion a little later. In 2010, Herren refused to pay for a cab ride, which is why he was eventually arrested.
Despite his success and his presence on television and on stage, Willi Herren has accumulated debts of EUR 50,000 over the years. With his participation in the Promi Big Brother, Herren said he hoped to pay off his debts with a win. At that time he still had to repay EUR 70,000. However, Willi Herren only came third in the Promi Big Brother.
Despite all the hustle and bustle around him, Willi Herren has remained down to earth. In 2007 he got involved with HeartKick e. V. in the Glückauf-Kampfbahn in Gelsenkirchen for seriously ill children by playing football in a showbiz team.
