Xherdan Shakiri was born on October 10, 1991 to Albanian parents in Gnjilane. At that time, the city belonged to the territory of Yugoslavia. Today it is located in the Republic of Kosovo. His family emigrated to Switzerland. Here Xherdan grew up with his two older brothers and his sister on a farm in the municipality of Augst. His father encouraged Xherdan and his brothers to try their luck at football. Little Xherdan started playing soccer at the age of four. His first club was SV Augst.
Career
As Xherdan Shakiri’s talent quickly became apparent, he switched to FC Basel’s youth department at the age of eight. He was a member of this association from 2000 to 2012. In 2009, at the age of 17, he received his first professional contract from a Swiss club. In the same year he played his first game in the top Swiss division (away from FC St. Gallen) and scored his first goal (home against Xamax Neuchatel). In his first professional season he became Swiss champion and cup winner. He scored 18 goals in 92 games for FC Basel. From the 2012/13 season he played for Bayern Munich. In two and a half seasons, he made 52 appearances for the German record champions, scoring 11 goals. He joined Inter Milan on loan in January 2015. Here he came up with 15 missions and scored one goal. From the summer of 2015 he played for the English club Stoke City. After three seasons in which he played 84 games and scored 15 goals, he moved to Liverpool FC, where he has been under contract ever since.
