Xherdan Shakiri is an active professional soccer player with Swiss citizenship. He is mainly used in midfield. He is often compared to Lionel Messi because of his similar height and because, like the Argentinian football star, he is an attacking, technical left-footer.
Xherdan Shakiri was born on October 10, 1991 to Albanian parents in Gnjilane. At that time, the city belonged to the territory of Yugoslavia. Today it is located in the Republic of Kosovo. His family emigrated to Switzerland. Here Xherdan grew up with his two older brothers and his sister on a farm in the municipality of Augst.
